ECO Cartridge Store is being recognized for strong internal recycling programs and for their commitment to reducing the amount of waste their company produces. "We are very pleased that our efforts to help the environment has been recognized and thank King County for its leadership role is promoting business recycling," said Vic Swan, owner of ECO Cartridge. To qualify as a Best Workplace for Recycling & Waste Reduction, organizations must meet at least 10 criteria out of a list of 33 good business recycling practices—choices that range from placing recycling bins by every desk, to collecting food scraps for on or off-site composting, to having internal ‘green teams’ that support the business’ programs. “King County is pleased to see the list of Best Workplaces for Recycling and Waste Reduction continue to grow from year to year,” said Sharon Aller, King County program manager for the campaign. “Businesses like ECO Cartridge Store demonstrate the value of creative approaches to recycling and reducing waste in the workplace – from desks, kitchens and break rooms, to warehouses, fleets and anywhere else where employees generate recyclable materials or can reduce waste.” King County releases the Best Workplaces for Recycling & Waste Reduction list annually. The goal of the list is to recognize the top recyclers and waste reducers, and help motivate others in the local business community to improve recycling and waste practices. |

May 19, 2009 From The Kirkland Highland Real Estate Buzz: Local merchant, Vic Swan, who is the owner of EcoCartridge in Totem Lake did a fabulous presentation about the marketing of printer ink and how profitable it is for tech companies. His company helps the consumer save money on ink and reduce waste by refilling and reusing ink cartridges. Buying a new ink cartridge can set you back by about $35.00. Buying a refilled cartridge costs about $15.00. I thought his topic would be very dry, but in fact, it was fascinating. Many of us KAN reps had questions and he had all the answers. His company has saved 17,000 pounds of plastic from being dumped into landfills over the 4 years he has been open in Totem Lake. Mr. Swan is actively involved in the community as part of the “Green Kirkland Partnership, Sustainable September, and gives back to the community in many other ways. He had a great fund raising idea for PTA groups. He’ll buy cartridges from the PTA for cash. It’s great to support a local merchant who is eco-friendly and can also help save you money! Here’s a link to his company website. You can also follow him on Twitter! September 17th, 2008
