Since our opening in July, 2004, ECO Cartridge Store customers have kept 17,100 pounds of industrial plastic and metals from electronic parts out of our landfills. And this has also resulted in reduced oil consumption of 155 barrels that would have been used to manufacture new cartridges.

In addition to being environmentally responsible, by refilling and remanufacturing cartridges, ECO Cartridge Store also creates jobs locally. Every cartridge is recycled and remanufactured in the community that ECO Cartridge Store serves.

Facts you may not know:

1. It takes about a gallon of oil to make a new laser cartridge and 2 1/2 ounces of oil are used for every ink-jet cartridge produced.

2. Almost 8 cartridges are thrown away per second in the United States alone.

3. In North America alone, over 350 million cartridges per year are discarded in our landfills, and that number increases by 12 percent annually. In terms of weight, that is equivalent to over 30,500 African elephants or forty 747 jets!

4. A laser cartridge thrown into landfill can take up to 450 years to decompose. Some components made of industrial grade plastics will take over a thousand years to decompose.

5. Every remanufactured cartridge saves nearly 3 1/2 pounds of solid waste from being deposited in landfills.

6. Remanufacturing cartridges reduces pollution. Almost 90% of empty cartridges are incinerated or dumped in landfills.

7. In one year, if the world's discarded cartridges were stacked end-to-end, they would circle the earth. In the next seven years, if all laser and ink-jet cartridges are saved from landfills, a bridge can be built from the Earth to the Moon - 223,000 miles!
